B2B.Africa

B2B.Africa builds company profiles, tender listings and reports from public and licensed sources, and attaches a source and a date to every datapoint. This page explains what we use, what each check covers and what we do not check.

Where does B2B.Africa get its data?

Data comes from four kinds of source:

  • Government sources: public government sources used for a specific check, named with the date in each report.
  • National Treasury eTenders: South African public tenders, published through the eTenders portal in the Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS) and used under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Attribution: Data: National Treasury eTenders (OCDS), CC BY 4.0.
  • The company's own website: read from the domain the company controls.
  • Licensed data providers: contracted providers, used under the terms of our agreement with each.

What does each verification level check?

Each level of the verification ladder adds one kind of check.

  • Unclaimed: the organization appears from public sources. Nothing is checked.
  • Claimed: someone from the organization claimed the profile and confirmed basic details.
  • Domain verified: the claimant proved control of the company's domain, by a DNS record or a file on the company's website.
  • Registration checked: registration is checked when the company provides documents.
  • Documents checked: supporting documents — registration certificate, ownership or authorization — are reviewed by our team.
  • Fully verified: a physical site visit confirmed the business operates at the stated address.

Levels are earned by passing the checks and are never sold. Each verification report discloses whether the subject paid for the verification process.

What does sanctions screening cover?

We screen every organization we verify against the United Nations Security Council consolidated list, as implemented in South Africa through the Financial Intelligence Centre's targeted financial sanctions. The South African list is on the FIC targeted financial sanctions page, and the UN list is on the UN Security Council website.

Screening happens before a verification status is published. It covers these lists only. It is not a general legal or compliance clearance, and a company that is not listed has not been cleared of every risk.

How does every datapoint carry a source and a date?

Every datapoint on a profile, tender listing or report is stored with the source it came from and the date it was collected. You can see where a fact comes from and how old it is, and judge it accordingly.

How fresh is the data?

Freshness depends on the source. Each datapoint shows the date it was collected, and an older date means the underlying source may have changed since. Tender listings follow the eTenders feed; company records are as recent as the last check shown.

What does B2B.Africa not check?

Registration is checked when the company provides documents.

We do not make on-site visits by default; a visit happens only at the Fully verified level.

We do not guarantee solvency, creditworthiness, product quality or the outcome of any deal. We do not guarantee sales, contracts or replies from third parties. Verification shows what we checked and when, nothing beyond that.

How do I correct a mistake?

If a datapoint looks wrong, contact us through the site, naming the page and the datapoint. We compare it with its source, and correct or remove it if the source supports that. If you represent the company, claiming your profile lets you confirm or update your own details.
